"Celebration" is our newest CD. This CD was developed as part of the Wheatland Chorale's celebration of its 20th anniversary season in 2006-2007. It showcases music from the Chorale's live performances from 2002 through 2006. First among these is the Requiem, by John Rutter. A requiem is a mass for the dead and, therefore, might not spring to mind as the first candidate for a disc entitled "Celebration!". However, this work is included because it conveys a stirring, peaceful, life-affirming look toward the future. Its overflowing melodies and positive message are matched by John Rutter's setting of "I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes", with which the CD closes.
In between is a collection of favorites in a variety of styles. These include American hymn tunes set by Alice Parker for choir and woodwinds, Robert Frost poems set by Randall Thompson, featuring the men of the Chorale, Wilbur Chenowyth's lilting Vocalise for soprano solo and male voices, and the monumental sound of choir and organ in the Kyrie by Louis Vierne.
With this disc, the Wheatland Chorale celebrates its first 20 years, and looks to a future of continued great choral music.
